UTFP Member Races
|
Aaamazzarites
|
Planet: Aaamazzara. Humanoid race with large
bald heads. They generate their clothing and many other things including
furniture from their own mouth, like Terran bees make hives.
|
|
Andorians
|
Planet: Andoria. Humanoid Federation members
are blue-skinned in appearance and have bilateral antennae and
characteristically white hair. Andorians are self-described as a violent
and warlike species. Andorians engage in group marriages of four as a
rule. Their variety of silk is prized for its softness. Andorian jewelry
is highly collectible.
|
|
Antedean
|
Planet: Antede III. Ichthyohumanoid species
which are fish-like in appearance and have purplish-silver scales. The
natives of Antede III have been seen by very few humans. Their preferred
method of dealing with the trauma of space travel is a self-induced
catatonic state, during which they can rest standing up. Their half-shut
eyes fully open upon awakening, a process that takes several hours. They
then proceed to eat large quantities of vermicula.
|
|
Anticans
|
Planet: Antica. A humanoid species with
lupine features, including fur, erect ears and a snout. They are mostly
carnivorous, and like to eat live meat. Antica maintained a long-standing
feud with sister planet Selay, both in the Beta Renner system. The disputes
were resolved in the 2364 Parliament Conference, after which both planets
entered the Federation .
|
|
Ardanans, Troglytes
|
Planet: Ardana. Ardana is a Class-M world,
with red skies. The planet has several 'cloud cities', suspended by
antigravity. In 2269, it was revealed that the surface was populated by
people known as 'Troglytes', considered an inferior species by the
Ardanans living in the cloud cities. This proved to be untrue, as both
'races' were found to be of the same species .
|
|
Argelians
|
Planet: Argelius II. The Argelians are known
as a hedonistic, peace-loving race. This was acquired during the
so-called Great Awakening in 2067. This pacifist philosophy relied on
off-world city administrators. In 2267, several murders forced the
Argelians to resort to draconian laws for punishing the offenders.
|
|
Bajorans
|
Planet:
Bajor. Humanoid race, distinguished outwardly only by extra wrinkles at
the bridge of the nose, have wandered the galaxy and settled on various
worlds ever since their homeland was occupied by Cardassians(circa 2328).
By custom, their familial name is used before the individual name. The
ancient Bajorans had a tremendously rich and developed civilization
complete with architecture, art, philosophy and even some technology
before human beings on Earth became bipedal. Among their complex death
rituals, Bajorans hold that a deceased soul should make peace with its
former life and bid goodbye to those left behind before proceeding on to
the afterlife. Their heart's internal arrangement is mirrored along a
horizontal, not vertical axis; puncturing the lower ventricle of the
heart brings immediate death, as discussed on stardate 46982.1. To the
Bajorans, the land and the people who live on it are one and the same.
Bajorans are led by both a spiritual leader (Kai) and by a provisional
government.
|
|
Benzites
|
Planet:
Benzar. Benzites are blue-skinned with distinctive facial
features.Benzar, a member of the Temporal Federation, has an atmosphere
similar to standard Class-M, but Benzites required respiration devices to
help them in Class-M environments, until medical advancements rendered
these devices obsolete in 2372. The Benzar system was conquered by the
Dominion in the war. Romulan forces liberated Benzar shortly after
entering the Dominion war on the side of the Federation and the Klingons.
|
|
Betazoids
|
Planet:
Betazed. A Federation race basically humanoid except for the
solid-colored dark pupils and mental power of telepathy within the race.
They also have varying empathic links to other races. Their
empathic/telepathic contact leads to a natural trait of complete honesty,
somewhat troubling to outworlders when practiced fully. The telepathy is
not inborn but almost always comes on with adolescence. There are also
cases of over-empathic abilities, and those who suffer from such extremes
must be counseled and trained to avoid insanity, but are almost always
affected throughout their life. Betazoids are actually uncomfortable
around those, like the Ferengi and Breen, whose minds they cannot read.
Similarly, the minds of animals can be a bit frightening to them, and
they tend to prefer smaller animals. Their mind contains the paracortex,
their telepathic lobe, which is highly capable of recovery from injury,
and includes the "metaconsciousness," or a trauma filter;
psilosynine is the neurotransmitter involved. In addition, their REM
sleep frequency is different than for most humanoids.
|
|
Betelgeuseans
|
Planet:
Betelgeuse II. Betelgeuseans are tall hairless blue-skinned humanoids
with long pointed ears. Betelgeusians decended from a race of
leopard-like eagles. They have the claw and bone structures like a
condor, but walk upright.
|
|
Bolians
|
Planet:
Bolarus IX. A Federation race of humanoids, most distinguishable in
appearance by the narrow yet distinctive ridgeline running at least from
over the skull from the spine to the nose and down the neck. In addition,
they also have longer ears than humans and their skin tone ranges from a
yellowish green tinge to a blue darker green tinge to medium blue. Though
three Bolians who appear — V'Sal, Mot and Rixx — are bald, the Bolian
Haro (later discovered to be a false image) has a head-full of styled,
green-tinted blond hair, parted and thinning along the top front of her
head and exposing her Bolian ridgeline.
|
|
Bynars
|
Planet:
Bynaus. The Bynars are a species of short, bald humanoids. They are all
linked to a sophisticated planetary computer network, and work in electronically
connected pairs for highest efficiency. Beta Magellan, the star around
which Bynaus revolves went nova in 2364, resulting in severe damage to
the planetary network. Desperate for help, Bynar operatives attempted to
steal the USS Enterprise NCC- 1701-D to use its computer to reboot the
Bynar network.
|
|
Cairn
|
Planet:
Cairn. Cairn applied for Federation membership in 2370. The people of
Cairn are unique. They have not developed a spoken language, but instead
communicate by telepathically transmitting thoughts and images to other
telepaths. Although this hinders their communication with most
off-worlders, they can 'speak' to species like Betazoids.
|
|
Caitians
|
Planet:
Cait. Cait orbits a star in the Lynx constellation. It is one of only two
planets in it's system. Caitians are a diverse feline species, believed
to share ancient common roots with the Kzinti.
|
|
Cardassians
|
Planet:
Cardassia. Tall, long-necked, humanoid in appearance, marked by several
bony protrusions and ridges: one from the shoulder to under the ears,
whose bottom lobes in turn are more pronounced forward to the jawline,
and from above the eyes and back over the head to the rear base of the
skull, showing through hair. Other ridges run from the nose line to the forehead,
and along the chin to define a sharp jawline. Their skin type and hair
vary from light purple to a greenish hue and near black. Predatory in
large numbers, more cautious alone and instinctively searching out a
dominant position in any social setting. Children may keep pets. Women as
well as men are allowed to be Gul in ship command.
One of their greatest characteristics is devotion to family; caring for
parents as well as children. Families of up to four generations under one
roof are not uncommon. Another trait is an attention to detail. They
taught record-keeping skills to many planets, including Bajor.
Cardassians are famous for their photographic memories.
|
|
Cygnites
|
Planet:
Cygnet XIV. Cygnite society is dominated by women. The planet was site to
a Starfleet repair and maintenance facility.
|
|
Deltans
|
Planet:
Delta IV. Deltans exhibit a characteristically bald head, except for the
eyebrows. Deltans have a highly developed sexuality. There is a
Federation base on Delta IV.
|
|
Elaysians
|
Planet:
Elaysia. Because of Elaysia's low gravity, the humanoid Elaysians can
actually fly through the air on their planet. Most Elaysians find the
average Class-M gravity challenging, and therefore they rarely leave
their homeworld. Elaysians have to wear a special suit to cope with
higher gravity environments.
|
|
Grazerites
|
Planet:
Grazer. The humanoid Grazerites have evolved from herbivorous herd
animals, and as such abhor violence and confrontations.
|
|
Hekarans
|
Planet:
Hekaras II. Hekaras is located in the busy Hekaras Corridor and the only
inhabited system in that region. In the late 2360's, two Hekaran
scientists discovered that warpdrive had a detrimental effect on the
fabric of space-time. The Federation Science Council refused to accept
this, until in 2370 the first subspace rift appeared in the Hekaras
Corridor. After this, the Federation restricted all ships to warp factor
5.
|
|
Haakonians
|
Planet:
Haakonia. An aggressive humanoid race with prominent facial ridges, located
in the Delta Quadrant, who conquered Talax some 615 years ago, after a
war of nearly 10 years. |
|
Haliians
|
Planet:
Halii. The Haliians are a partially telepathic race of humanoids,
characterized by two small outgrowths on their foreheads. |
|
Hekarans
|
Planet:
planet Hekaras II. The Hekarans are a humanoid civilization and members
of the Federation. .</
|
|
Katarians
|
Planet:
Katarus. Katarus is a member of the Federation that is renowned for it's
culture and food. Katarian festivals attract tourists from all over the
Federation. The Katarians are characterized by a narrow ridge on their
foreheads.</
|
|
Klingons
|
Planet:
Q'onoS (Kronos, the Klingon homeworld). The well-statured warrior race
has a genetic predisposition to hostility and a well-known streak of
fatalism; The culture's warrior ethic runs so deep that rivals in the
civil war can meet and drink as equal fighters for periods of time before
or after battles, thanks to the Capitol City's neutrality. During these
get-togethers, a great deal of growling, wrestling, snarling and
generally loud revelry takes place, Klingons seeming to derive tremendous
satisfaction from drinking with their enemies on the night before a
battle. A beard is a symbol of courage; a hammer is a symbol of power. A
true warrior fights to the death and would rather be killed than taken
hostage — an act which brings dishonor on himself and his family for
three generations. Their most important historic symbol of leadership,
Kahless, said Klingons should fight not just to spill blood but to enrich
the spirit. Their scientists are not highly regarded in the culture.
Shattering the cranial exoskeleton at the tricipital lobe brings instant
death.
|
|
Kreetassan
|
Planet:
Kreetassa. This Alpha Quadrant species has a very complex language —
which made for a problematic first contact with Enterprise NX-01. The
Kreetassans consider eating and mating to be similar activities, and were
therefore deeply offended when they observed the Enterprise crew eating
in public. The crew tracked them down again when a strange, symbiotic
organism transferred itself from the Kreetassan ship to Enterprise, taking
some crewmembers captive. Luckily, the Kreetassans had learned English,
and were able to communicate effectively with Ensign Travis Mayweather.
|
|
Laish
|
Home
Planet: Laish II. The Laish are tall, with a slim build and elongated
ears. They come from a low gravity world and live approx. 120 years. They
were separated into clans throughout most of their pre-warp history. The
clan system was dissolved in the early 25th century, but its influence
(mostly in number of members in government bodies and regional
boundaries) are still present. The disillusion came when the Laish were
forced to unite after Laish II was invaded by a race called the Gazelum.
The resulting war over the planet lasted 45 years, devastating the
ecosystem, but the Gazelum were wiped out thanks to the Laish's ability
to reverse engineer the alien technology and turn it against its
creators. After the war the Laish remained united and worked to combine
Gazelum technology with their own in order to help heal their world and
rebuild their civilization. After a number of decades warp technology was
developed and first contact with the United Federation of Planets
occurred shortly after. The planet was admitted into the Federation in
2453. The Laish have temporal technology and are signatories to the
Temporal Prime Directive and the Temporal Accords.
|
|
Medusans
|
Planet:
Medusa. Medusans are a species of highly intelligent noncorporeal beings
whose sensory systems differ radically from humanoid sensory systems,
which makes the Medusans particularly well suited for space travel. While
noncorporeal, Medusans still have a physical form, which when viewed by
humanoids, is said to be so ugly, that it will cause madness unless that
humanoid has the protection of a visor. In contrast, for those with telepathic
capabilities, the Medusan mind is said to be remarkably beautiful.
|
|
Nu'Ral
|
Planet:
Nuralia. A Parasitic Race, similar to the Trill symbiot, needs a host, of
some kind, to dwell in. However, whereas a Trill lives in the Abdominal
area, the Nu'Ral symbiot wraps itself around the brainstem. It has a very
long life-span.
|
|
Risans
|
Planet:
Risa. Risa is famous for it's open sexuality and a popular tourist and
shore leave destination since the early days of human space- travel.
Originally, Risa was a rain-soaked, unstable planet, but a sophisticated
weather control systems created an almost perfect climate for the Risans.
|
|
Selay
|
Planet:
Selay. The Selay are a reptilian, snake-like species. They had a
Long-standing feud with the Anticans, which was resolved in the 2364
Parliament Conference, after which both planets entered the Federation.
|
|
Shathar
|
Shathar
: homeworld Shathis Prime. The Shathar are a race of semi-humanoid reptiles
evolved from animals similar to Earth's Velocaraptor. Shathar are still
carnivores just like their ancestors. Having the legs and tail of the
dinosaur gives them an amazing burst of speed and an extended capability
to jump, compared to humans. They also have better eyesight and smell as
well as a highly developed psionic ability. Due to their planet's
evolution, it became necessary to develop flight before land animals,
meaning Shathar have expansive Pterosaur-like wings. They are capable of
flight, carrying up to twice their weight, as well as themselves, into
the air.
|
|
Tellarites
|
Planet:
Tellar. A humanoid species distinguished by a porcine-like snout, stout
build, deep set eyes and a characteristically irascible disposition. The
long-time United Federation of Planets members are pig-faced in
appearance and antagonistic by nature.
|
|
Terrans
|
Planet:
Earth. Also known as Humans, or Homo Sapiens. A highly intelligent
humanoid race, located in the Alpha Quadrant. Founders of the Star Fleet
in the 22nd Century.
|
|
Tiburonian
|
Planet:
Tiburon. Humanoids with large sculpted ears. Very Intelliectual minded.
|
|
Trill
|
A
unique "joined race" whose humanoid members have provided host
bodies for small soft-bodied entities in a symbiotic relationship. Among
the humanoid Trill joined species, apparently at least two races of hosts
are used to house a symbiont: those of the ridged forehead and those with
a narrow speckled band running along the hairline to the sides of the
neck, then down along the body. The symbiont body is a foot-long purplish
lump of cranial and exoskeletal tissue, some are susceptible to damage by
transporter beam. Since the symbiont integrates each new host's
personality with its own after joining, Trill relationships are often
hard for single-unit species to deal with and sometimes don't survive the
change. The symbiont does carry memories of time shared with each of its
hosts, and each new combination — aside from gender, height and weight —
carries a different blood type, metabolism, nervous system, and brain
wave pattern. The complex brain carries two cerebral nuclei — one in each
being, linked together — whose brain wave patterns can each be scanned
separately as well as together. The two are biologically interdependent,
but 93 hours after their joining, neither can survive without the other
|
|
Vissians
|
Planet:
Vissia. Vissians are distinguishable by crescent-shaped, segmented
ridges circling the eye at the temple. Unusually the Vissians had three
genders: the third gender, the cogenitors, made up only 3% of the
population and were treated as inferior, existing only for facilitating
reproduction between males and females.
Vissians tended not to travel far, believing that there was sufficient
exploration close to their homeworld: this is the reason why they had
not expanded particularly far from their homeworld, despite possessing
warp drive far longer than humans had. Their primary goal was to meet
new species. Vissian appreciation of food is based on aroma rather than
taste. Of Human foods tried, they tend to like varieties of cheese.
|
|
Vulcans
|
Planet:
Vulcan. A humanoid race, with copper-based blood, slightly green-tinted
complexion and notably pointed ears. It is the race responsible in a
large part for the founding of the Federation. Vulcans have developed a
culture dedicated to the complete mastery of logic, learning to suppress
their once-violent emotions in nearly every aspect of their existence.
Vulcans are typically stronger than Humans though they do not boast of
this strength. Vulcans were brewing wines at least 900 years ago, circa
2070 — or since before the United Federation of Planets was founded.
Cardassian mental disciplines may be a match for Vulcan's, although those
of the former do not employ telepathy. The species is made up of many
varied skin tones, including dark brown. The Romulans are an offshoot of
the Vulcan species.
|
|
Xindi
|
Planet:
Xindus. A mysterious race located in the Delphic Expanse. There are five
distinct species of Xindi: Xindi-Primate, Xindi-Reptilian, Xindi-
Arboreal (sometimes called "Xindi-Sloth"), Xindi-Aquatic and
Xindi-Insectoid. A sixth species, the Xindi-Avians, are now extinct. They
were killed off in a war that went on for nearly a hundred years, destroying
the Xindi homeworld. In the mid-22nd century the Xindi Council was formed
to reunify the surviving races, but their attention was diverted from a
peaceful agenda to an aggressive one in order to address the alleged
"human threat."
|
|
Zakdorn
|
Important
Federation member race who specialize in categorization, analysis and
strategic operations for Starfleet and various Federation bodies.
|
Allied Races
| Amakiirian
|
Planet:Amakiiria.
Humanoid telepathic race with extremely long life span. Not much else is
know about this species at this time.
|
|
Archellians
|
Planet:Archellia.
Archellians live very long lives. The average lifespan of a typical
Archellian is roughly 7000 or more years. This is accomplished through
their unique aging process. An Archellian ages normally for the first 12
years of his or her life. Once they reach 12 years of age however, the
Archellian aging process kicks in. Their bodies now take 90 standard
years to age one year. Archellian physiology is quite different than
Humans. The most noticeable part being their dark blue skin tone. Their
hair ranges between a darker shade of blue to black. Their eye color is
gender specific. Males have orange eyes, and females have red eyes.
Internally, they have most of same organs as Humans. However they also
have a sort of filter built into their throat which purifies water for
them. This is due to the unusual composition of their planet's water
supply. No other creature on Archellia has this feature, which has led
Archellian scientists to believe they most likely did not originate on
their current home world. Also, due to the larger mass of their planet,
an Archellian is normally stronger than a Human. But this is only a small
increase in strength. Archellians also have excellent night vision and
tend to be nocturnal. While they can exist in the daylight, they prefer
not to.
|
|
Asgard
|
Planet:
Othala. The Fifth Race. A small framed, non-humanoid species with large
dome shaped heads and solid black oval shaped eyes with a long life span.
They are sterile and reproduce by cloning themselves. They also have a
superior intellect and technology and are a peace-loving race. Their
stargate address is the infinity symbol.
|
|
Bespinites
|
Planet:
Bespin. Somewhat secluded by its location in a little-visited sector of
space, Bespin is an astrophysical rarity. An immense gas giant surrounded
by a number of moons, the planet contains a band of habitable atmosphere
among its endless clouds.
In this stratum of life, enterprising prospectors have established
floating mining complexes devoted to extracting valuable gasses from deep
within the planet.
|
|
Courscant
|
Planet:
Coruscant. Situated in the heart of the galaxy, Coruscant is the seat of
government for the 5th Galactic Republic. Over thousands of years of
civilization, the planet has been entirely enveloped by cityscapes and
urban sprawl. Immense skyscrapers reach high into the atmosphere, and
stretch down deep into the dark shadows. Crisscrossing the skyline are
streams of unending repulsorlift traffic. Even in the depths of night,
Coruscant is alive with glittering lights and rivers of traffic, a
bustling megalopolis that refuses to sleep.
A quite different world exists beneath the shimmering surface of the
city-planet. In the lower levels, where sunlight never reaches, is a haze
of artificial lights and flickering holograms, promising entertainment
catering to a myriad of alien species and the full spectrum of morality.
Citizens from above and below intermix in countless establishments
offering escape, anonymity, jubilation and more than just a hint of
danger.
|
|
Dagobahns
|
Planet:
Dagobah. The planet is covered in gnarled trees and fetid swamps. Huge
lagoons are home to fearsome snakes and other creatures that swim in the
murky waters. Leathery- winged avians take to the fog-filled skies.
Though the planet has no signs of technology, its life form readings
register as massive. It is a world plagued with overgrown jungles,
creatures, and constant rain. It is a perfect place to hide, for few
would ever come to such a planet willingly.
|
|
Dantooine
|
Planet:
Dantooine. The remote world of Dantooine was once home to an early Rebel
Alliance base. It has a temperate climate with steppes and grasslands.
Its distance spared it from being made an example of the Death Star's
powerful superlaser cannon.
|
|
Ewoks
|
The
Ewoks are sentient furred bipeds native to the moon of Endor. They are
curious individuals that stand about one meter tall. Although extremely
skilled in forest survival and the construction of primitive technology
like gliders and catapults, the Ewoks have yet to progress past
stoneage-level technology. They are quick learners, however, when exposed
to advanced technology with simple mechanical processes and concepts.
Most Ewoks live high among the trees of Endor's forests, in villages
built between the closely spaced trees. Ewoks venture to the forest floor
to hunt, and set traps to catch various prey. For the forest dwellers,
the surrounding giant trees play an important cultural role. These
hunter-gatherers are a deeply spiritual people. They believe themselves
to be descendants of the Great Tree, a sacred tree in the forests.
The tribal structure of the Ewoks has a Council of Elders ruling over
them, and the Council is headed by the Chief. A medicine man also lives
in the Ewok village, a keeper of mystical lore, and a healer to the
injured.
Endor is secluded in a remote corner of the Outer Rim Territories. Rivers
wind through the thick canopy of ancient trees, and the forests extend
high over the dark floors and the low mountains of the world.
|
|
Ferengi
|
Planet:
Ferenginar. The Ferengi have a culture which is based entirely upon
commerce. They follow a code of conduct known as "The Ferengi Rules
of Acquisition." These rules ordain conduct such as "Never
place family before business." Reportedly these rules are subject to
interpretation depending upon the situation. Plea bargaining is a legal
tradition, as is the purchasing of an apprenticeship following the
Attainment Ceremony. There is no distinction between business and
pleasure in Ferengi culture.
The Ferengi brain is composed of four distinct nodes, possibly what
prevents them from being read empathically by Betazeds. Ferengi blood is
yellow, turning dark blue-green when oxidized. Bodies are not autopsied
or even touched until after death rituals — which have been seen to be
the desiccation and sale of the remains. The Ferengi culture does not embrace
science, except where it will provide profit. Large earlobes are a sign
of virility in Ferengi culture, and also an erogenous zone, sexually
stimulated when stroked as in the performance of Oo-Mox.
Ferengi females have smaller lobes then males and are not permitted to go
out in public, hold jobs, wear clothing or particpate in trade or
commerce. Quark says spouses never argue and that divorce and broken
homes are unknown. Women are even asked to cut up food and chew it softly
for their mates and children. They are also forbidden to travel.
|
|
Hothans
|
Planet: Hoth Hoth is
the sixth planet in the remote system of the same name. It is a world of
snow and ice, surrounded by numerous moons. Small meteorites that have
wandered away from a nearby asteroid field constantly pelt Hoth's icy
surface. This icy world has developed a number of indigenous lifeforms,
including the wampa ice creature, and the tauntaun. The daytime
temperatures of Hoth were bearable for properly dressed humans, but the
Hoth nights are too hostile even for the native creatures.
|
|
Mon Calamari
|
Planet:
Mon Calamari. The Mon Calamari people are amphibious humanoids, about 1.7
meters tall. They have salmon-colored skin, high-domed heads, webbed
hands and large, goggle- like eyes.
|
|
Tatooines
|
Planet:
Tatooine. The civilization on Tatooine is a hodgepodge of various
lifeforms which include: The Hutts who are about three meters long and
have thick, oily skin. Two short, stunted arms protrude from their upper
bodies. They have wide mouths and small yellow or red eyes. The Jawas are
meter-tall humanoids completely hidden behind rough, hand-woven robes.
Their faces are concealed within the dark folds of a cowl, from which
peer their sickly glowing yellow eyes. Tusken Raiders -- or Sand People
as they are also known -- brandish a deadly bladed club known as a
gaderffii. They also carry projectile rifles with which to shoot at
passing vehicles. The male of the species tend to be the aggressors.
Females can be distinguished by their elaborate jeweled masks with
eyeslits and torso-covering sand-shrouds. Tusken children wear unisex
cowls and simple cloaks.
|
|
The Naboo
|
Planet:
Naboo. An idyllic world close to the border of the Outer Rim Territories,
Naboo is inhabited by peaceful humans known as the Naboo, and an
indigenous species of intelligent amphibians called the Gungans. Naboo's
surface consists of swampy lakes, rolling plains and green hills. Its
population centers are beautiful. Naboo's river cities are respendlent
with classical architecture and greenery, while the underwater Gungan
settlements are a beautiful display of exotic hydrostatic bubble
technology.
Naboo is a geologically unique world. It lacks a molten core, indicative
of an ancient world. The planet is a conglomerate of large rocky bodies
permeated by countless caves and tunnel networks. This causes numerous
swampy lakes on the surface, which lead deeper into the planet's
structure. The native Gungans have developed transports that exploit
these cave networks, but even these hardy explorers pause at venturing
too deep into the planet core, for it is infested with gargantuan sea
beasts with ravenous appetites
|
|
Tholians
|
Origin: Tholian space.
A highly advanced sentient — apparently crystalline species, non-humanoid
in appearance and extremely territorial in disposition. They hail from a
hot planet by Human standards, probably not Class-M. Together, two
Tholian ships can literally spin a web of energy in space in order to
trap an enemy vessel, after which the web is then drawn together,
constricting and finally destroying the vessel inside. Tholians are
hive-minded and known for their punctuality. They are one of the
independent border races that could have been dragged into a Klingon
civil war due to their proximity.
|
|
Wookiees
|
Kashyyyk
is a lush jungle planet where treetops serve as homes for the native
Wookiees, a towering fur- covered species known to be ferocious warriors.
The planet serves as a navigation gateway for the entire southwest
quadrant of the galaxy, making it of prime strategic importance.
Wookiees are haggy giants from an arboreal world. The tall and commanding
Wookiee species is an impressive sight to even the most jaded spacer.
Despite their fearsome and savage countenance, Wookiees are intelligent,
sophisticated, loyal and trusting. Loyalty and bravery are near-sacred
tenets in Wookiee society. When peaceful, Wookiees are tender and gentle.
Their tempers, however, are short. When angered, Wookiees can fly into a
berserker rage and will not stop until the object of their distemper is
sufficiently destroyed.
|
|
Yavin IV
|
A
remote world that became a focal point in galactic history, Yavin 4 is a
jungle moon orbiting the gas giant of Yavin. Its steamy jungle canopy and
abandoned native temples formed the perfect hiding place for an early
Alliance base. The native Massassi had long been extinct by the time
General Dodonna's rebel forces erected a hidden fortress on the moon. For
centuries it had been the home of the Jedi Temple.
|
Neutral Races
|
Aer |
The
Aer are the only survivors of a planetary population that rendered their
world uninhabitable through nuclear war.
The Aer are an avian race, though strangely enough, their physiology
does include mammalian traits most notably the provision of milk for the
young. The most obvious avian traits include: talons at the ends of
fingers and toes, wings on their backs (wingspan is an Aer’s height),
and a beak like arch inside their mouths in place of teeth, a hollow
bone structure and relatively low muscle mass, yet high endurance.
The Aer posses great intellect, capable of innovation, and greater than
average memory recall. On their homeworld they were great explorers,
many of their race have an innate desire to explore.
Males dominate all leadership positions, and marriage is non-existent in
Aer culture. Males mate with whatever female they desire, and any
children are raised solely by the mother. This has led to a fairly open
society where much is shared.

|
Hirogen
|
A
spacefaring nomadic race of the Delta Quadrant whose society has been
completely based upon the ritual hunt for over a millennium, despite
their advanced technological status. All other species are viewed as
prey, not equals, but only challenging prey are prized and pursued.
Competition among males, hunting singly or in packs as "Alphas"
and their subordinate "Betas," is for trophies or
"relics" to display, including victims' skeletal remains,
gutted organs and captured technology and artifacts. |

Latonans
|
A
city of Humans from the planet Latona who abandoned the will to develop
technologically in favor of exploring the mind. Any technology that
breaks down on their world, thusly, remains unfixed, as the people no
longer possess the knowledge to make the necessary repairs.
The Latonans rely on a particular piece of defense technology, the
Sentinel, to prevent the people from falling under hostile occupation by
eliminating any who threaten their borders.

Ocampa
|
A
race that moved underground and grew dependent upon the
"Caretaker" alien who had accidentally made their planet's atmosphere
incapable of producing a water cycle some 500 generations ago. The
average Ocampan life-span is nine-years.
Unaware of the overseeing alien as anything but a benevolent god, their
ancient texts record the disaster as "the warming" when the
benevolent Caretaker opened an underground chasm to allow them to build a
city there. They have let their telepathic and other abilities atrophy
but care until death for those "honored guests" rejected and
infected by the medical testing their Caretaker completes in his search
for a mate. In fact, such guests are stared at by the natives for the
contact they have had, and believe they are "immune" from their
fatal disease. Some less latent outcasts are tolerated and have a farm
colony outside the city. Some have found fissures to the surface, but are
closed up for protection against the intrusive Kazon-Ogla above. The
mainstream Ocampa hold the ancient stories of cognitive abilities as
apocryphal.
The 31st century Ocampa have developed telekinetic and telepathic abilities,
and have extended their lifespan to over 20 years.

Wadi
|
Origin:
the Gamma Quadrant. Space-faring and game-loving humanoid race
(pronounced "WAH-dee") from an unspecified planet whose people
are the first formally known to be contacted from the Alpha and Beta
quadrants, at least through the Bajoran wormhole. Vulcan ship made first
contact in 2369. They value gemstones. Those seen are mostly tall with
four or so blue painted designs unique to each person on the forehead and
right temple. The males have straight long hair braided in back, the
females' are in upswept or short styles. They applaud by clapping the
back of one hand to the palm of another.

|
Shinari
|
A
humanoid species which is Very Tall and heavily Built, with a solid body.
Their lifespan is approximately 300 years. They use speech, and are
taught many languages, including Shinaret, their native language. They
have very short fuses, and have trouble controlling their temper.
The Shinari are omnivores, just like humans. They eat a balanced diet of
meat and vegetables.
They live on a recently found planet named Shinarus IV. The gravity is
slightly less than the Earth’s gravity, comparable to the gravity on
Earth’s Moon.

Non-Allied and Hostile Races
| Artaru
|
Planet of origin: Artarus. The Artaru are a race of proud and
noble race of warriors who were a pre-warp society that had many ships
only capable of Timefleet’s equivalent of one quarter impulse. The
Artaruian people much like the people of the Klingon Empire built an
empire like society that considered death during combat or by a enemy
more honorable than dying slowly of age. It was during the reign of the
fourth Emperor Talius the Artaruian people began question the Empires
slow growth due to the uneducated and under developed engineering and
scientific departments of the government.
During this time the Empire split into two factions those interested in
the better education of the empire and its people and those that revered
the old ways. The civil war was one of the shortest to ever be recorded
by any historian as it was ended in first day that it began. With a low
support rate those requesting education were killed and disposed of
quickly.
During this time the government of Artarus slowly began to fail and its
people began to fight amongst themselves in a mass self genocide of the
planets people. As the Empire like government slowly faded a tribal
system began to gain strength with the same result of the tribes fighting
among themselves, before only two remained and several thousand Artaru
were left on the war ridden planet.
It wasn’t until the early twenty fourth century that the Artaru in a
freak accident met their now allies the Vacamar that their society began
to conform and was thrusted into the warp age, before their time and their
homeworld abandoned.

Breen
|
Planet:
Breen. A humanoid species from a cold planet who operate in a politically
non-aligned manner and are reputed to be aggressive, with outposts in
Sector 97. It is presumed that the Breen home system is in an adjacent
sector. While the Federation has some knowledge of their ways, Betazoids
are unable to detect the Breen empathically, and the Breen's use of
cloaking technologies coupled with powerful disruptor-style weapons makes
them both formidable and inaccessible to the Federation. The
disruptor-type, close-range damage done to the Vico in the Black Cluster
is consistent with their battle tactics and their level of technology —
meaning the Federation has some knowledge of their ways. But a motive for
the Breen to be inside the cluster is puzzling. They have Type-III
disruptors like both the Romulans and Klingons, but they will not kill
all victims.

Chitori
|
Planet of Origin:
Chirus. The Chitorian people are a people that resemble an Earth Sloth.
Slow to move and slow to decide their speed is only matched by their
grasp for engineering. The Chitori’s society was one that had vast
cities developed and engineered for technological growth, but their
indecisiveness and slow to act personalities would only service to delay
their development.
Falling true to their arboreal nature the Chitori’s society developed
many high cities that were suspended high above the ground supported
around massive trees that cover the planet of Chirus. The society’s lazy
nature would lead for no need of an organized government but mainly for
solely live, eat, and die tactics. Not being and aggressive society the
need for weapons was not evident as any Chitori would state that no
Chitori was a warrior, but an eater they could be.
Only a need for food supply due to a large appetite that the Chitorian
people has would lead to the invention of warp travel. With the
invention and use of this new technology the Chitori slowly and
methodically began to leave their home in search for a food source that
could supply their species. It was the development of warp capable ships
without armaments that would began to lead to the death and systematic
decrease in the Chitori, but by luck they were found by a race called
the Vacamar that would help them develop the idea of replication systems
to supply the food need and in return they would assimilate into a new
society.

Enocillians
|
Planet:
Enocillia Major. The Enocillians are a solid silicate species that evolved
on a distant Gamma quadrant world covered with gaseous sulfurs, metamorphic
rock with a sea of liquid iron. As the planet slowly cooled over the
eons, the tiny crystalline and silicate beings that would evolve into the
Enocillian began to form in the cooler pools of molten rock. It was when
the planet was bombarded with comets and water entered the mix that the
beings began to form complex crystals and evolve. After absorbing complex
organic compounds in the air and soil for millions of years, the complex
crystals began to develop intelligence.
Enocillian society is highly complex, rough and unforgiving. They bear
some traits to the Klingon society, whereby the weak are broken down and
melted in pools of molten rock to be reabsorbed sometime in the future.
The Enocillian reproduce through fission, splintering off fragments of
themselves and then exposing the fragments to the same mix that allow the
young silicate crystals to grow.

Lucian Alliance
|
A
shady, yet powerful consortium of smugglers and mercenaries that have
merged together to take advantage of the power vacuum left behind by the
Goa'uld following their defeat by the Replicators. The Alliance is made
up of a committed band of individuals who are not afraid to get what they
want by force, though most arrangements are carried out through trade with
a loose list of alliances. They typically will not trade with anyone they
do not know, but if the bounty is worth spreading themselves, they will
trade with unknowns to obtain what they want. There is no indication of
exactly when the Alliance was formed, but it likely came together
following the fall of Anubis and his fleet, though it may have been
developing before this time.

|
Orions
|
(pronounced
"oh-RYE-uns") Planet name unspecified, within the Orion system.
A green-skinned species of humanoid traders with known dealings in the
black market, and questionable intentions towards the Federation. Orions
are known to have bartered their female dancers at one time. Orions were
reported to have transported half the population of a village on Brinda V
to work as slave labor in mining camps. They are another example of a
space-faring race, like Cardassians, who have relied on manual labor
rather than technology for tasks considered menial.

Q Continuum
|
Origin:
the Q Continuum. Super-race able to change matter to energy and to
suspend time, existing in a continuum of the limitless dimensions of the
galaxy. A dissident once claimed that his brethren are not omnipotent,
but have sacrificed in their evolution their mortality, sense of purpose,
desire for change, and capacity for growth. Despite their advanced
nature, the Q at times have practiced capital punishment and life
imprisonment, especially to punish those who would leave the Continuum.
The issue of suicide, viewed as an interruption of their existence,
prompted a civil war between the more liberal and the staid Qs, seen as a
series of galaxy-wide supernova bursts in 2372.

Sphere Builders
|
The
Sphere Builders are a race of aliens that live in a plane of existence
separate from our own dimension. They are also known to the Xindi as the
Guardians, because they saved the five surviving Xindi species from
extinction following the Xindi Civil War in the 21st century. They led
the Xindi refugees to habitable planets and pointed out valuable
resources for harvest. The Builders possessed technology, which allows
them to examine alternate timelines and therefore see possible futures.

Ori
|
The
The Ori (pronounced "OR-eye") are a group of
"ascended" humans who use their advanced technology and
spiritual knowledge of the universe to trick non-ascended humans into
worshiping them as gods. The Ori are perhaps the greatest threat to our
galaxy. They are a cosmic threat, with the power to expand their
influence between galaxies without trouble. The Ori can be simply
described as modern-day Ascended Ancients who disagree with the Alterans'
viewpoints about interference with less developed sentient beings,
science, and the importance of free will. As ascended beings, they live
on a higher plane of existence of great power and knowledge. Due to their
immense power and transcendental state, they are as close to being
"gods" as any non-deific being can be..
|
|
Replicators
|
Mechanical
self-replicating life forms who can absorb technology and transform
themselves into a higher form. They can break themselves down to
individual blocks at a cellular level and go into a deep stasis to
preserve energy. They multiply rapidly and are killers.

|
Sheliak
|
Origin:
Shelia star system. A technological, non-humanoid life-form of
classification R-3. They appear as a wrap of black, mucous-secreting
folds, resembling a head and gesturing upper appendages. As a culture,
they view humans as a lower life form and have no qualms about
exterminating those legally in their way, as with the unknowing human
"trespassers" on Tau Cygna V. They have learned several United
Temporal Federation of Planets languages but still consider them
imprecise. The Sheliak language continues to elude Federation linguists,
and even telepaths have been of no help. Their shipboard reception rooms
are very large and open, perhaps indicating that space is not critical on
a Sheliak vessel.

Vacamar
|
Planet
of origin: Vaxus. The Vacamarian people were a people invested in life
and the exploration of it. Their society was governed by a council that
sat compromised by those in all aspects of life from science, medical, or
civilian. The Vacamarian people turned a blind eye to the aggressions of
the world that might harm their society as a whole or the planet on which
they dwell.
In the late twenty third century the Vacamars had overly developed a
sense of preservation into a form of paranoia. Fearing all things from
germs to movement the Vacamars developed the system to live and move
while in device that employed antigravity. Enclosing themselves entirely
in antigravity devices theVacamarian society, slowly transitioned to
scientific way of life and sterile, almost to a point of sterilizing the
gene pool.
Fearing the inhalation of their society the Vacamars began using their
vast knowledge of medicine and science to continue the breeding process,
but soon discovered that their antigravity state had left their bodies
fragile and vulnerable to physical attack as well as making their ability
to repair their own technology almost impossible. The task of solving
these problems was presented to the council which sent out “envoys” to
bring back solutions and incorporate them into the Vacamarian society.
These envoys would bring back the Artaruian and Chitorian peoples, but
fearing these new species would destroy the planet the Vacamars and their
new species additions became nomadic.

Wraith
|
Planet
of origin: Unknown. The Wraith are a hive-based species that drove the
Ancients out of the Pegasus Galaxy around 8000 BC. The Wraith eat humans,
(more specifically, they cull humans by sucking the life by first
injecting them with an unknown enzyme that keeps the victim alive longer,
then draining the 'Life Force' from the victim all done via a specialized
organ in their arm), as humans are their only known current food source.
Prior to their departure from the Pegasus Galaxy, the Wraith also
apparently fed upon the Ancients as well. The Wraith are sentient,
intelligent creatures who believe themselves to be superior to humanity,
regarding humans as livestock (akin to the Goa'uld, who use humans for
hosts). They are native to the Pegasus Galaxy and are vastly
technologically superior to most human cultures (including Earth Humans),
though far less advanced than the Ancients. Despite their technological
inferiority, the Wraiths' overwhelming numbers were enough to drive the
Ancients out. The Ancients submerged Atlantis in 8000 BC and returned to
Earth.
