Interview with Major Karl Mjolnir

By: Treistema, FNS reporter

FNS: Thank you for this chance to ask you a few questions Major. Can you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

Major Karl Mjolnir: Well, first off, I'm Major Mjolnir, commander of SG-3 on Sargas IV, one of the two majors assigned to the unit.

FNS: Why did you want to become a Marine?

Major Karl Mjolnir: Why did I want to be a marine? Hm, well, military's in my blood. My father, and both my grandfathers, and before that a few other family members were soldiers, and I always wanted to be.

FNS: What do you think of the Stargate program?

Major Karl Mjolnir: My opinion of the Stargate program... hm, well, it's well-run, and it's always nice to get out, see another planet, even if someone is shooting at us from time to time.

FNS: What do you think of your Commanding Officer?

Major Karl Mjolnir: My commanding officer, Colonel Hackworth... a good person, even if I do not always agree with all his decisions. But he is my commanding officer, and I am a soldier, so... guess it means I just got to shut up and do my job.

FNS: What is your opinion of the recent war?

Major Karl Mjolnir: My opinion of the recent battle? That we had time to get ready, and that too many good people on our side were killed. It was surprising, in some ways, how they just threw relatively un-supported infantry against a hardened position, but that's just bad tactics.

FNS: How do you think everyone under you did?

Major Karl Mjolnir: The men under me did the best. I am proud of all of them, and sad to lose the ones that died or were too badly injured to remain. I'd just wished there had been something we could do to get them back.

FNS: I understand you were wounded, can you tell me a little bit about that?

Major Karl Mjolnir : Yeah, shot in the chest. Had to run to get one of our guys out of a bad spot, he didn't make it anyway, and I didn't move fast enough. If he hadn't been there, though, I'd be dead too.

FNS: How do you think everyone did during the war? I mean your fellow Marines?

Major Karl Mjolnir: The marines are marines, we fight, and that's what we did. There's nothing bad I could possibly say even if I wanted to.

FNS: Is there anyone who stood out in your mind?

Major Karl Mjolnir: The people who stand out in my mind are the engineers, really. Especially Lieutenant Commander Toree, who was out in the field laying mines. If it hadn't been for those mines, I don't think many of us would've survived.

FNS: Do you think this will be the last time the Breen will invade?

Major Karl Mjolnir: The Breen, that's a wildcard. We gave them a bloody nose, but this is good land for what they want. I think they will, but I am not the one dealing with them politically, and I don't know what'll happen between Breen and Federation leaders, and line marines don't make foreign policy, even if we do carry out those policies.

FNS: Is there anything else you would like to say?

Major Karl Mjolnir: I have nothing extra to add.

Thank you once again Major.

Interview with the Mayor of First Town

By: Treistema, FNS Reporter

FNS: What made you come to Sargas IV to begin with?

Mayor
Havish Agna: I am a farmer by profession. It's a profession that requires very few people these days, with the agricultural methods and technologies. But I wanted a simpler life, one with more hands-on farming. And as you may be aware, Sargas IV is an agricultural colony. I'd gotten involved in local government in the past, and the Federation Council was apparently impressed. I was asked to come to Sargas IV to be a part-time administrator.

FNS: Did you have to leave a lot of family and friends behind?

Mayor
Havish Agna: Some, yes. I have a sister, Ariana, with a son and a daughter. Her husband was killed in a tragic accident, when their and son and daughter were three and one, respectively. I've been sort of a second father to them ever since. Leaving them behind was difficult.

FNS: What do you think of the war that just ended?

Mayor Havish Agna: Such a waste. We don't even know what it was all about! There was no communication at all, as they didn't give us a chance. I wish there could have been some way to prevent it.

FNS: How did your people deal with it?

Mayor
Havish Agna: There's a wide spectrum on that. We had our Planetary Security forces defending us, along with a volunteer force supplementing them. They were the hardest impacted. The rest of our people were barricaded in buildings around the colony. Our people were scared, worried, angry, confused, to say the least. We're probably have quite a number of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

FNS: May I ask, how many of your people died during the conflict?

Mayor
Havish Agna: I guess I can't ignore that that happened. Our defense force was 320. Unfortunately, of those, we lost almost 30 people. 30 very good, valuable people. Many were friends of mine. A cemetery wasn't exactly something we planned on adding to the colony.

FNS: Do you see any changes to the colony now that the war is over?

Mayor Havish Agna: Besides the cemetery? Yes, yes, we plan to make some changes in response to what happened. That 300-person volunteer force should have been bigger, but that was everyone that was competent with a phaser. We intend to amend that. We're implementing a plan to create a Security Reserve, totaling 25% of our population, which will give us a potential defense force totaling several hundred.

FNS: Is there anyway you think the colony could have been better prepared?

Mayor
Havish Agna: We could have had more people trained in combat. We had only had 20 people that were properly trained to defend the colony. With the Security Reserve, that will change.

FNS: Where do you see the colony in the next ten years?

Mayor
Havish Agna: As a more self-sustained colony. Since we're an agricultural colony, food isn't a problem. But a lot of other resources are. Much of our materials, technology and equipment we need have to be brought in. Even something simple like paving some of our roads, which we're currently working on, requires materials to be brought in. We hope to expand and enrich our infrastructure to provide such things for ourselves in the future.

FNS: Do you think it was a mistake for your people to have settled here?

Mayor Havish Agna: Not at all. The Federation is growing ever larger, and that means more people, people need food, and growing food requires space. Good ground for growing food is very valuable, enough to go after it wherever it might be. Even if it means being out here on the Federation Frontier.

FNS: Do you have anything you want to say to all who see the FNS vidcasts?

Mayor
Havish Agna: Yes, thank you. This conflict has taught me that in times of war, and hardship, nothing is more important than friendships, and coming together to protect what we hold dear. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I did not properly understood that saying until recently. We stand better together than apart. We need to remember that sometimes.

FNS: Thank you again for your time.

Mayor Havish Agna: Thank you, Ms. Treistema.

War in the Sector

Zeta and Sargas IV under siege

By: Krefec Lenore, FNS Staff Reporter

In a bold move, a joint invasion force made up of the Breen Warships and Cruisers and those of the Pirate Lucian Alliance has initiated an all out war in the system. It is not known for sure why this illegal attack has taken place, but it is speculated that the invaders wish to drive Starfleet out of the system and perhaps gain control of it for themselves. Starfleet vows this will not happen.

The Invasion force is comprised of twenty-four ships of various classes. Four of the ships are engaged in operations over the colony on Sargas IV, which is defended by Marines. The remaining ships are attacking Starbase Zeta on all sides with the base meeting the attack head on by engaging every tactic at its disposal.

Starbase Zeta Coup

Irrational Starfleet Cadets Implicated

By: Dude Droppin, FNS Staff Reporter

As outlined in portions of a disturbing report recently obtained by FNS, Starhase Zeta was overrun by a group of Starfleet cadets. Details remain sketchy at this time, but sources have indicated that the cadets were part of a Starfleet Academy experiment that took a severe turn for the worse. While conducting simulated war games aboard the station, the cadets became irrantional and disconnected from reality according to a source within the station, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The station was taken over and its senior officers held hostage in the standoff. Anesthesia gas was administered to finally bring an end to the deadly stalemate.

Officials from Starbase Zeta, Starfleet Academy, and Starfleet Command refuse to comment on the uprising, pending further investigation. Dr. Devron Thynax, noted neuro scientist and professor at Starfleet Academy has resigned his post, insisting that it in no way relates to the incident on Starbase Zeta.

The demands of the kidnappers are unknown and it is hoped that the President is still alive.
